Keep the beast and mod it. If you said you really with you did not have a fairing or the shark-nose really caught your eye, then I would say it was time to consider trading up.

I'd keep the bike you've got.

I hear a lot about the new frame. I haven't ridden one, but I'm willing to try it. I don't like the way you feel like you sit more on top of the bike than in it like with the older frame, though.

Have ridden both. Huge difference. New frame is way better.

Wish I coulda got a carb on my 07.
My 95" Dyna will run rings around my 96" Elec.Glide. I know weight diff. and wind drag but still the 95 flat out runs better.

I'd love to have a money tree in my yard like you must have in yours.

I am slowly getting mine to where I want it to be, so I plan to keep it for quite a while.

Agreed, he got a steal. I'm guessing he bought it last year, prices have definitely been going up in my experience.

You could not replace that bike for 10,500 today, and would pretty easily sell it for 12,500, probably more like 13,500 if you have a little patience. You might be able to get an 09 for 15, so your upgrade cash could get you the newer bike w/ 96/6 spd.

However, a buddy of mine has a 07 road king w/ the 96/6 and can not keep up with an 01 electra w/ I believe a stroker.....so upgrading what you have could very likely be faster. I have no personal experience this is just 3rd hand for what it's worth.

I went from a 2005 Road King Custom (old frame) to a 2009 Road King Classic (new frame). No question the handling with the new frame is much more precise. And having the rear cylinder cross-over down low is a benefit, as are the improved motor mounts. But there is a price to the new stiffer frame and that is a stiffer ride, which is especially noticeable with the 12" Street Glide rear shocks. I have 12" Progressive 440's on my Road King Classic (vertically challenged) and the ride over grooved pavement and at expansion joints is much rougher than on my former bike.

IMO, look for a 09 & up bike. They have the new frame design.
