I only have 3200 miles on my 10 SG and did the 1000 mile service on all three fluids but wanted to change trany and primary to Red line oil. Now this is not about the oil type to put in like 99 percent of other threads but more along the lines of I drained the trany first and the fluid looked clean still and the magnet on the drain plug was clean as can be. Now on the other hand I drain the primary and the magnet looked like a science fair project groing on the end of it. to the dealer I go? Normal wear? and also the dealer did the 1000 mile serve cause I got a deal on it and was wondering if putting pipe dope on the drain plugs is a standard practice?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
dealer did my 1000 mile and that was the last time, pipe dope to the point the o ring wouldnt seat and leaked.asked them why pipedope they say so it wont leak i say let the o ring do its job the pipedope caused the leak. primary oil can look nasty clutch fiber turns it to mud pretty quickly.
+ 1 on the pipe dope, The O-ring does the sealing. Never understood why Dealer service tech's use Pipe dope. Pipe Dope is used on tapered pipe threads for lubrication so the threads won't Gaul when tightened. Clean all that crap off and when you put the drain plug back coat the O-ring with a little grease and torque to spec. 14 to 21 Ft lbs.
Tranny fluid will stay clean/new looking for a long time while the primary gets nasty pretty quick. Like stated above, the clutch material contaminates the primary fluid.
I like to change my primary along with every engine oil change, and the tranny every other time. The tranny could probably go even further without issue.
And like others have said, I've never used any pipe dope. I've also never seen the need to change the o-rings - they last practically forever in static applications such as drain plugs as long as you don't cut or knick them.

Your primary is going to show some signs of where every time but once everything is done beating and bagging around in there it will reduce to just some nice grey slime on your magnet. Pipe dope is for dopes for sure if you clean everything and lube the oring and torque correctly you will not have nay issues. If you do you try tightening just a tad more if that dont work new oring again. I have been able to take to old oring of before and slip one ober the head of the plug so I did not have to change the fluid just for a oring leak. Good luck good choice on the redline in the tranny you wont believe the differnece.
Probably clutch **** (normal) on the primary plug. I use teflon tape on the threads and the o ring. I wouldnt use pipe dope but I have smoked a dope pipe.
