The instructions worked great for me, thank you for your work! I had the dealer install the new compensator on my 09 streetglide at 45k miles. The original was the cause of some starting issues due to the loss of crank position when the compensator compressed and released in AIM. It solved the problem.
However.. always a but... The dealer said i didnt need a new chain or tensioner, they "looked good". Well... not to me, I could see notches in the chain rollers and the wear on the tensioner block with a flashlight and mirror from the cover access. The chain had a whine at cruising speeds in all gears at particular load points. I hated it. The extended warranty doesnt cover replacement for being worn out, only broken. Here we are 60k miles, the problem had to be fixed! I did not replace the compensator, I replaced the chain and the tensioner . The WHINE is gone now. One note on the tensioner, the part number I bought was 39929-06B, please note the two spacers in the original installation are now removed, the bosses for mounting on the tensioner are now the directing mating surfaces to the primary case.
I took pictures of the 15k miles of wear, it looks excessive to me and the pictures show the ridge on the spoke of the compensator sprocket. I havent ever seen this compensator part and my folks at H-D had not seen any worn out ones yet, that he would admit too, or what the wear limits were supposed to be, let alone an opinion of the notable wear. My opinion was that the ridge was around .02 inches and looked like the surface of a very worn cam lob and cam rocker from a worn out valve train.
What are u using for primary lube? That is some serious wear! After looking at all the posts in this thread I have a simple question. Why not just continue using the original rotor with the new compensator? Maybe they don't work together but it would sure make it easy.
Just ordered kit 40274-08A and a SE clutch spring, I figured while the primary was off I would get both done at the same time. I hope everything goes as easy as it looks in the photos, getting ready to install cams and want to be ready!
