Hey. Thanks for the how-to write up w/pix!!
A task I wasn't looking forward to. Now it seems easy enough.

Thumbs up

Bowa18, thank you for taking the time to post this. Nicely done with clear instructions and great pictures. I'm about to order a SE compensator and am installing it myself so this has been very helpful.

Yep, HD Formula + since new. No noticeable wear on anything in the primary. It's a good product and no reason to over analyze about using something different like some of us do. Very happy with what I saw and will continue using Formula +.

Question about grinding - I'm pretty sure there's a rotor puller tool that would allow you to just pop it out - no grinding necessary - ?

But there's not enough clearance to come out, whether you use a puller or not.

Wow, you learn something new every day. None of the youtube vids mention this - not saying it isnt so, maybe its a function of the newer cases?

The tool just let you get a better hold on the rotor to break free from the magnetic bond it has with the stator. The lip on the case doesn't allow enough clearance to get the rotor pass it once you get it away from the stator. Grind, loosen up the inner primary (with the risk of leakage after you're done) or pull the inner primary are your three options. The grinding method is so damn simple to do it's a no brainer to me. I didn't come up with this idea, many have done it before me, I just wanted to try to provide some clear pics of the process. Thought about doing a video but I only have two hands and the wife didn't want to play movie maker with me.

This bike in this vid is a pre 2007 and doesn't have the lip on the inner primary cover. It's also about half the thickness of the new covers that have the lip. Even after grinding the lip you're still double the thickness of the pre-07 inner primary covers....if you are concerned about structural stability.
