Another vote for a standard non-marine grade Alpine. No CD in mine, I got one of the digital media units (I-pod, etc. inputs) I've had it on the bike through a lot of rain, bike washes, as long as the retractable cover is down in a heavy downpour, no problems in over a year.
If all you're looking for is tunes on the cheap, any inexpensive car stereo will do the job.
Had a Sony non marine from biketronics and I covered it with a towel one day while washing and forgot to take the towel out so it got damp in there and bye bye stereo. Went with a marine alpine set up and I feel a lot more comfortable. I still bought the kuryakyn splash guard, fake Chrome piece as well.
I have been an Alpine user for many years now and thought I might have to go with Kenwood for a marine grade unit. But alas, Apline now has Three marine grade units with one listed as "water proof". I think I will stay with Alpine now.
All the boards in the Alpines have been coated for salt and abrasion resistance. I don't care that someone here says different, but marine units are without a doubt a world better than any non marine grade unit. Radios in Harley's usually undergo more water contact than most that are installed in boats in my opinion.
My $0.02
I was running the Alpine X100 media center, great unit, no problems... Now running the JVC KD-AVX77 cause for some crazy reason I wanted a DVD unit in my fairing
