Default Communications switch kit differences

Greet'ns Y'all,

Reading through some posts on here concerning install of HD CB equipment. Doing some research to add this thing to my 2006 EGC. I was looking at the Instructions sheets that are out there. I did note that there are three different part numbers for the Communications switch kit listed ( 77173-06, 77173-07, 77173-08) I know that the -08 is for the newer bikes with the 6 gallon tanks and the new console pod with the connector in the middle channel. My question concerns the 77173-06 and 77173-07. My research showed me the 77173-07 instruction sheet, but have not been able to find one for the 77173-06. I did note that in the P&A book from a couple years ago they show all three part numbers. In looking at the instruction sheet for 77173-07 at the very bottom they show the individual parts and individual part numbers but the image is captioned "Figure 1. Service Parts, Kit 77173-06" this is on the Figure 1. Service Parts, Kit 77173-07 remember.
Can anyone tell me if there are any physical differences in the -06 part kit and the -07?? I would think that since the 07 tank consoles were the same configuration as the 06 that there would not be any differences in them. I have found a -07 kit but wanted to make sure that it was the same as the -06 before I pull the trigger on buying it.

Thanks in advance,

Brad

The only difference is the left handlebar control assembly. The 07 kit has 70046-07 and the 06 kit has 70046-00. This I imagine would be due to the 07 and later having the clutch interlock switch.

Another difference will be that the left side handlebar switch harness will terminate with a Molex connector in the '07 kit, and the older kit will use a Deutsch connector.

Depending on what type of installation you want (e.g. passenger headset connection, speaker pods on the tour pak), you may want to consider the Boom Audio and Intercom kit, p/n 77108-09A. Fitment info from HD says it's for '07 and newer but is easily adapted to '06 by swapping out the Molex connector for the Deutsch connector on your bike. Here's a description of the installation on my bike:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...tra-glide.html

Basically, the kit provides the same CB/intercom function that's found on an Ultra without the need for speaker pods which was useful to me since I seldom have the tour pak on the bike, and doesn't require changing the tank console.

Well my wife being able to communicate is one part of the driving force behind the start of this upgrade, I am starting with the CB because I want to be able to communicate with riders in our group, eventually I want to go ahead and put on the speaker pods and the rest of the intercom system so she and I can talk much easier and she can get in on the bike to bike conversations as well and I won't have to blast the music from the front speakers.
I had read your post on the install of that system you mentioned several times and it is very informative and I have looked back on it a few times while researching this project. I appreciate the suggestion.

I have a 06 EGC with a touring PAK but no pod speakers and I'm looking to add a CB/Intercomm system to my bike for me and the wife. Like a 06 ultra.

so far I've purchased a 70169-06A Ultra Wiring harness and a 76236-06C CB Module.

I'm looking for a chrome 77173-06 Left Hand Handlebar control assembly with the PTT but can't seem to find one. and not sure where to find the rear pods and speakers with the PPT switch.

Can some one offer me any help?

Eric
