I've had windshields that never broke. I've had a some that cracked around screws over time. I've had large pieces snapped off.
I've never heard of a plastic windshield shattering.

Clearview here with 20k on it and it hasn't shattered. I don't know how to answer your poll though - not sure what its made of. Looks like some kind of plastic to me. lol

How do you tell if it's acrylic or polycarbonate? I've had mine on for about 25-30 k and no problems.

I'm not sure why the question is being asked, what the concern might be, or why Clearview in particular is being mentioned. Will the OP elaborate on his concerns?

I have a clearview, caught a rock off a horse trailer. I was doing about 60mph, put a star on the screen. Made the rest of the way home and then some, replaced it because of star position, right in line of sight. The rock would have hit me on the right side of the money maker. By the way, i am very poor.

I'm considering buying a Clearview. been looking for some time.. decided
Clearview, then saw the other threads concerning Acrylic...
Just don't want to pay some $200 for a shield that may crack badly
when the first stone hits it.

I think you will be just fine with any of these shields. I prefer the preformed recurve windshields made by Clearview. Their shields are high quality and they are DOT approved.

Mine has held up for a long time. The only time I needed to replace mine was when I made a stupid mistake and overtightened the fairing.

while doing about 65 behind a dump truck a piece of wood, 3"x4" comes flying off the truck and hits my clearview towards the top. i ducked and heard a bang. nice scratch but no chip or break. that should be a good endorsement for you. excellent shield.

polycarbonate resin thermoplastic or known under the brand name of Lexan will not shatter, that's why its used in racing windshields etc. The dome helmets of the astronauts back in the day were made out of Lexan. Clearview and Freedom Shield are both made out of acrylic blends. Both companies are out of Colorado. I bought a Freedom Shield and put about 6k on my bike since then and I'm very happy with it.
