I only use the deflectors in the winter. I cut my windshield down to my nose height and new bars that let me sit back farther and have no problem with wind buffeting. I also have my seat lowered 1 1/2 inches which may have helped.
I just picked mine up today...will let you all know how they work. The buffeting on mine comes up from the bottom, and makes my full face helmet vibrate on my head. I had a friend who swore by the deflectors. I hope I get used to the looks too. A good idea to take them off when riding without the windshield.
I have these in the box down in my garage...I plan on putting them on as soon as the flurries we got today (yeah right!) vanish.....buffeting has not been that bad to me, it has been the loud wind roar that is bothering me (and my ears!) On my VTX I had a Memphis Shades windshield with lowers and it was a nice pocket of quiet still air.....I'm hoping to get the same results on the Road King with these deflectors...sounds like I might based on some of these posts!
I just came in from cutting my windshield from 20" down to 18 1/2". I am going on a ride Saturday and will see what effect this has.
I made a cardboard template of the windshield from the crossbar up. I then cut 1 1/2" off the template at the crossbar end. I traced the 1 1/2" shorter template on the taped up winshield.
By doing it like this I kept the original contour of the windshield. It really turned out good, Looks factory.
At 18 1/2" the top of the windshield is even with the tip of my nose. I am now looking over the windshield instead of through it.
For now I have taken the fork deflectors off. I just can't get used to how they look on the bike.
I called Long Ride Shields today and they are coming out with a 19" windshield for the Road Kings in a couple weeks. If my cut job don't work I may just order the 19" and try it.
i run the deflectors i have to mount them backwards due to my signals they work great took my buffeting down about 85% i started with the 16" windshield and went to the 18" and that knocked it to 0 now i have a fairing and its great
I dont like the look much either, however once I installed them and took it for a ride the fact that they functioned so well made them look so much better. I only use them for the winter months when the air is thick and cool as I have noticed that my engine temps are higher with them on. Its kinda like a ugly chick that can cook her a$$ off.
Put them on and a HUGE difference...buffeting down by 85 %...nice! they do look like they belong on there...so glad I got them... if u got buffeting issues, it is worth it!
