For those that think ABS has no impact on rotor warpage, think again! If the ABS does what it's supposed to do, it will heat up the rotors more than a non-ABS by shortening the stopping distance, that decreased stopping distance had to come about by increased friction on the rotors by not allowing them to lock up, all other things being equal. Also the rider can just stomp on the rear brake with no ill effects so the rear rotor gets a workout in comparison to a non-ABS equipped bike.
SPIDERPIG , This is from 5 months ago but I have the same condition on my 2011 street glide. light pulsation 1up , shake the handle bars 2up under normal braking , rear only. front brakes only, smooth. I have dial indicated the rear rotor @ .0055" to .006" caliper is not hanging up. stealer ( I mean dealer ) told me the pulsation is normal for touring bikes !!!! the tryed to blame it on my lower blocks !!!! How much B/S do they wont me to eat !!!! I am not done with them yet. Did you ever find out what was causing your rear brake pulsation? Thanks ,David
Dave, The dealer pushed back at first saying that they couldn't find anything out of the norm. I asked them to take it out and apply only the rear brake at say 40-50mph. Once they did that they replaced the rear rotor and pads under warranty. Much better now.
HD has said the pulsating in the rear brake on hard application of the rear only is engine pulses due to the frame change in 2009. I had the same problem and did not believe them. I took my bike out and applied hard rear brake and and shut the engine off. To my surprise every bit of pulsating stopped. Rear brake was smooth. If the pulses are in a definate pattern try this and see if they go away.
