Changing out headers to something like true duals and adding a stage 1 air cleaner helps, but you lean out the bike and need some kind of fuel management system or download to your ECU/ECM. Most say the SE mufflers are pretty mellow. I tried all kind of setups, but a 2-1. I didn't think my RK would look right with a 2-1 system. I didn't find the sound I was looking for until I changed out the stock cam. I switch back and forth between the CFR mufflers and 4" Rinehart mufflers with my true duals. Couldn't be happier! Nice rumble with out the obnoxious loud tone.
This is why i love Rineharts, they are relatively quiet until you twist the throttle then EVERYONE will hear you. Makes your bike sound like a harley, not a ricer tryin to sound like a harley!
Just went from SE's to Rineharts (slipons) and love them. Really bark when twisted, nice mellow rumble at cruise.
They sound like what I expect a Harley to sound like...
Just sayin'
You can find slip ons that are pretty loud. I'm assuming you bought a used 09 or older without a cat in the headpipe. If not, you won't have much luck getting it louder. That cat is a sound killer for almost everything. If you have an 09 or older rineharts slip ons are decently loud, pretty much most true dual set ups, thunderheaders, CFR's, many others. Big shot duals are loud if that is what you want. Rinehart true duals are pretty loud and sound good too.
Yep, stock 09 headpipe and rinehart slip-ons, plenty loud..
Just put a used set of Cycle Shacks on, $80 bucks on E-bay, and they sound really good. When decelerating they have a nice burble type rumble with no popping. Stock fuel management and air cleaner.
+1 for the Rush 2.5". My friend has them on his RK and they are the meanest sounding pipes I have personally heard. I say personally because there may be others I haven't heard in person yet, but they sound awesome. The only reason I didn't go with them is they do blue a little at times, and I wanted the Twin Slash to eliminate that problem. Very happy with the sound of my pipes, but his drown mine out when he cracks the throttle. Very nice pipes.
Got my CFR's on Friday after going over different pipes for about a month. Nothing I've heard sounds like these pipes. Spent the rest of a 500 mile weekend starting up the bike at every stop we hit from people wanting to hear what they sounded like up close.
