I noticed it while installing my new speakers. Of course i was gonna try to fix it but its broken in several different places. Its under warranty so i guess i'll get a new one.
When you get the new ones reinforce them and you wont have the problem again.
Very common. Don't replace it, reinforce it with a small pieces of angle iron or aluminum and screws. If you reinforce it, it wont break again. Do a search, on this forum there have been pictures of this fix.
Done the same after the first one broke and have yet to have the issue again.
In 08 HD came out with a revamped fairing mount do to massive amounts of customer complaints / warranty repairs. I just found out today that my left side mount is broken and under warranty off to the shop I go 07 Streetglide.
'08 Ultra here. Just sent my stereo to Iron Cross Audio for repair. Noticed when I removed the stereo that both inner mounts were broken. Got a call from Iron Cross-apparently my stereo problems were caused by vibration damage. The stereo had been vibrating so hard that it was banging on my riser bolts.
So just a heads up -- the broken mount issue can cause expensive damage.
$250 plus shipping for stereo repair, new mounts through HD are $112 (supposed to be new design and different material).
I'm either buying aftermarket or making/repairing my own. I'll be damn'd if I'm gonna give HD $112 for something they should have built right the first time.
Not to mention the fact that I had my stereo replaced under warranty at 12,000 miles, and I'll bet the mounts were broken then-same stereo problem then.
Oh ya-just a footnote.
Was told by Iron Cross that some bikes have an issue with the stereo hitting the riser bolts and HD has a service bulletin about this issue and they have revised bolts with shorter heads available.
There is a supposedly new and improved version. Anyone know what year HD would of started using the new ones? Are the new ones failing as well?
My 09 had the week support brackets and broke. Replaced them. A service tech said the 10's came out with the new modified support brackets. I've had my new ones (10's +) on for over 20k miles with no problem.
Yes it's common. Mine broke where it is angled near the fairing. Bought a new one from HD, but it doesn't look any different. If it breaks again, then I will reinforce it.
