I had the bike in to warranty the compensator. While in there, they're putting in the SE comp and the XXXXX-98A clutch spring. Well, I got a call saying they're waiting on a thrust washer to come in?
What could have caused it to fail? Bike only has 2,000 miles on it (i was away from it for 8 months thanks to uncle sam).
Just an update: the dealership (Hampton Roads HD in Yorktown) took care of everything including upgrading to the SE comp and paid for the spring.
One of two things happened: their story is the factory comp caused some damage so they got a number or something from HD and everything is covered under warranty...which is f-ing awesome.
or two, the tech f ucked something up and they're covering their ***.
either way, i've got a new SE comp, thrust washer and the -98A clutch spring all for free.
So is your question what caused the stock compensator to fail or is your question why did they call saying they're waiting on a thrust washer which comes in the new SE comp kit?

I thought the same thing but at least he was taken care of by the dealer.
Well the washer comes in the kit. If they messed it up or it was missing, they should take it from another kit and quarrantine the kit that it was taken from and order the new washer via an RMA. When the new washer comes in they put it in the quarrantined kit and return it back to stock. Knowing the rate at which the SE compensators are used I would sure hope the dealer has more than one on hand. There is no way the bike should sit there waiting for a the thrust washer to come in!
If that is correct then you should have had a 165Kgf spring OE from the factory for that 110 engine. If you replaced that with the XXXXX-98A you went down in force to 145 Kgf. Is that what you wanted?
