i love my roadie. i really do. but i absolutely hate the way hd refuses to take that next step to better quality. now that summer is coming on and things are heating up, the edge trim on my fairing is starting its annual moving and getting sticky, etc. DOES ANYBODY HAVE A REMEDY TO THIS? can i just remove it? and if so, what does it look like? don't think it could really be any worse. any ideas appreciated. (ok, i'm off the soapbox now!!)
I feel your pain. Try adjusting your fairing. What helped mine the most was loosening the 4 acorn nuts at the bottom of the inner fairing. I then loosened up the 6 screws that hold then inner fairing to the outer fairing. I then shifted the outer fairing to fit the profile of the inner fairing and tightening the 6 screws accordingly. Then make final adjustments as needed while tightening the 4 acorn nuts. It took me the better part of 2 hrs to line mine up but no longer have any issues with the trim strips blowin in the wind. I had my bike on the lift and that really helped a lot. It may take some muscling to get what is needed for alignment. If there is a better way to do this I'm all ears here.
Remove the trim and clean off HD's goopy stuff. Using a toothpick, apply Super Glue sparingly into the groove and hold until it has bonded. Did mine over ten years ago and haven't touched them since.

I'm sure I just answered this a day or two ago, but maybe search is broken. 3M makes a trim and emblem adhesive that's perfect for this job. There's none of the stringiness that comes with super glue-type adhesives where you end up with those "wild hairs" of glue where you don't want them. In fact, I'll even provide the link here. I think I found it at autozone or o'reilly.
i used 3ms tacky glue and it works very well for me i wouldnt use superglue but its up to u. the tacky glue i used i put it on with a q-tip right on the edge of the inner fairing problem solved.
