I took my 2006 Electra Glide Ultra Classic to Daytona for Bike Week and while stuck in traffic I noticed my bike was overheating to the point it was burning my legs and idling roughly. I was nervous enough about it to pull off Main Street to shut it down to cool. Is this an ideosyncracy of the Ultra or a sign of a deeper mechanical issue?
Kind of a typical Harley issue or any air cooled bike on 100 degree days. I think that's why Harley came out with the EITMS. Change to synthetics if you haven't already done so
The 06's tend to run hotter the last year for the 88 and they had to lean the crap out of them.i had a 06 SG love the bike but sometimes i thought i was riding a bbq grill had pipe a/c and fuel man.and still ran hot i have a 08 now and it seems cooler m.o.
i live in south east texas and gets pretty warm down here in the summer and i hate gettin stuck in traffic on my 06 flhtci because of this very issue, infact mine has shut itself off because the idle would get so rough that it would drop to just below 500rpm's and die... nagged and complained to harley and you know what they told me?? that it has a deal on it to shut itself off when it gets to hot!! now i took those words and went to my local indy who is a certified harley tech and worked for years at the local stealer and then went on and got his own shop, and he said a big fat BS!! this so called kit didnt come out til 07 is what im hearing and its that kit EITMS, but i heard it shuts off the rear cylinder..... big confusion about this

Trailey7 that's exactly what I experienced. I had to goose the throttle just to keep it from stalling. I love this bike and have been very happy with it but geez, this is thorny problem. Thanks for the info.
