my bike lives outside most of the year except for winter storage (and one winter it lived outside). While I know obviously that is not ideal, i picked up a california car cover cover for motorcycles. had no issues with water underneath, no rusting. Worked great. Was expensive but as far as I am concerned, it was worth it as it has protected it great since I bought the cover 3 years ago. Take it off after a heavy rain and the water beads right off and the bike is perfectly dry

when I have the bike in our shop it is all-ways covered, too much dust.

As for the moisture it depends on where you live. Here in Nevada there is no such thing as too much moisture.

When I'm at home or on the road I don't cover it as much because its already out there getting dirty and theres not much point in covering it unless there is a big storm about to roll through and I have goods outside my bags sitting on the bike.

I have a cover, don't know the manufacturer, but its black heavy canvas with soft material where it touches paint or windshield. I use it when gone overnight, I use HD's Oasis cover during the day. Nothing in the garage, it doesn't sit still long enough.

To directly answer your question about moisture ... yes the wrong cover can keep moisture in and in essence lead to problems with the finish, especially on the aluminum parts. I have two covers for my scooter ( 2009 FLHTCU ). One is the indoor cover ( specifically designed to be used indoors ) that I got for a gift one year, Part Number 91685-98. It is made of light weight cotton and dose an excellent job of keeping crap off of the bike when it is in the garage. The other cover that I have is the HD 98715-85vc. The original 98715-85 which I got when I purchased my 1992 FLHTCU was NOT designed to be used indoors because of the material that it was made of was NOT BREATHABLE. Changes have been made to that cover and it is now ok to be used indoors as well. While this may not be important to all of the riders here in the Mid West we can have a MAJOR humidity problem late in the winter and it's not uncommon to go in the garage and see the scooter covered with moisture from the drastic temperature changes if you do not have a heated storage area. Hope that this helps. I'm done now and I'm taking the cover off and goin' for a ride!

On trips, I use a cover by Exigent, and have for years. It's light-weight and packs up pretty small in it's own compression bag. I figure if it's covered, it keeps idiots from messing with it and, believe it or not, having their pictures taken while sitting on it.

In the garage 2 old sheets. when I go on rode trips a $19.95 Wally Mart special that packs down to a small size. IMO, it's a waste of money for anything over $20.
