hd2007: That's actually one of the non-black colors I was considering. I thought if I was going to go with custom paint I'd go big, but I stuck with black in the end (chickened out...hehhe). Looks great on that bike. Eye popping. I was watching a biker build off the other day and one of the guys Perowitz <sp?>--an old timer from the North East--paints his bikes with Easter Egg colors. His philosophy was that people wouldn't cross the street to see a black bike, but they would for an Easter Egg.
your paint looks awesome!........as far as deciding,i know what you mean, i took a lot of talking to my painter about my job before it was started...must have drove them crazy!. i changed my mind several times.....i wanted to incorporate my emblem with the paintjob since its a 100th....i got my taillight shaved and let him pick the colors of blue and silver that went best together....you got a great deal on yours too!!

Deciding the paint was unbelievably difficult to do. He would have painted it any color I wanted obviously, and I saw some of his candy paint work which looked excellent, but when I bought this bike, I wanted black. Just something about black and chrome that I can't get over. So I decided to stick with black as the base. Then came the pattern and the color of the pattern. I have a tribal tattoo, and I wanted a little bit of tribal incorporated into the flames. I just left it up to him on how to do that. I also saw a couple of paint jobs with a real flame effect which I asked him to put inside the ghost flames to put a modern spin on an old classic.
One thing I've noticed about the real flames is that the pattern seems to CHANGE as the light hits it differently. That was a remarkable surprise. I can't wait to get it out under the sun to see what it does. I appreciate how you picked up on how subtle it is because I was explicit with Jody about that. I wanted subtle lines. Enough to look like a custom paint job without being obnoxious. I settled on a dark orange because I figured with an HD, you just couldn't go wrong with a little orange in the paint. Regarding the logo, he would have digitized anything I wanted and painted it on for the logo, but I thought the bar and shield was timeless and wouldn't wear on me over time.
We spent a good bit of time discussing the logo too. I didn't want it to be so bold and pronounced that it muted the flames, but I didn't want it to blend in with the flames either. I think he nailed the logo on the head (per my request anyway).
You really have to see his paint in the sun to see the flake in the paint . The person I sold that fatboy to has actually won a few shows for best paint .
Thats insane. 700 bucks? Geez man what a deal. Guess I'm going to have to call the guy now.
I just spent 700 bucks on BS bling and got basically nothing compared to this....
Cool thing is I have a black bike too... guess I'll copy yours.. JK
Very nice. Congrats.

Looks awesome and for 700 bucks your did REAL good. It's morning now... get some pictures out in the sun!
700 dollars for that paint job? That is outstanding! If I could get that done, I would not mind 1 or 2 minor unnoticeable flaws either. I think its very nice and if you like that is all that matters.
It looks great .. be happy and get out there and show it off!!
I went out for a shakedown ride today and stopped in at the dealer. One of the service guys went inside and brought a number of people back out with him. They were all geeked up about the pipes and paint. I realize it's far from a 'custom' bike, but it's as close as I've ever been to owning one, so it was cool taking it out and showing it off a little.
Thanks for all the nice comments from everybody. It was quite an experience, now I can enjoy the new, unique look.
