Default shock pump

Hey anyone have difficulty using the Harley shock pump? I twist it on and the needle goes completely around with one pump. I then emptied the shocks by pushing the button and attempt to reinflate. The readings seem to be inaccurate. Any of this read familiar to anyone?

I never noticed that. when you screw the nozzel on,it should show you what pressure you have. That's with out pumping it. If you don't have any pressure in it, then it will take several pumps to get a reading. You didn't say what year bike you have. check HD Manual for correct pressure. Make sure the nozzel is on tight & not leaking

If I am understanding your post, you are saying with one pump it goes to the max pressure?

If that is the case, I would say you should take the pump in for an exchange...that is Not how it should work.

Sounds to me that you are seeing the pressure in the pipe on the pump, not inside the shocks. Do you get a reading when you first attach the pump and before you pump it?

you're doing this while the plunger is still in the pump rather than extended? this may be causing the weirdness although i doubt it. it might be worth checking. i know that when i connect my air pump the pump handle is pushed in rather than extended.

The shocks and the pump are small volume. I learned with the shock on a mountain bike, just the air volume to fill the pump hose and guage are enough to drop the pressure to zero if there is not much to start with.

What do you mean inaccurate and how do you come to that conclusion? If you are saying the gauge goes completely around with one pump I agree that it is defective. If I were you I would try a friends gauge/pump or check with the dealer explaining your issue.

This happened to me a few years ago. Make sure you screw the connector all the way on. At that point, the gauge should read the current pressure in the shocks and the pump should work fine.

It could be a bad schrader valve on the fill stem. If you get zero pounds when you connect it and one pump maxes out the pump....

Stuck schrader....

I agree with this. It sounds like you are not engaging the schrader valve all the way. Therefore, you aren't making the connection to the air shocks and are only reading the pressure in the small hose on the pump itself. Make sure you have it threaded on straight and screw it all the way down. Once you make the connection you should see the gauge jump up to the pressure of the shocks unless they have no air at all in them. It's going to take quite a few pumps to see a change in the guage when you're adding air.
