is there a big difference between lined and unlined leather chaps? the rides are starting to get a little chilly at night here in south carolina. are lined chaps comfortable in the summer? also whats the difference in leather grades?

I have unlined leather chaps and I live in the north east (buffalo area thats been on the news for a week now) Leather does not necessairly keep you warm but it does an excellent job of keeping the wind off you. It would seem in my opinion that the lined chaps would be too heavy and too hot in anything but very cold weather. I think a better approach would be to have a pair of lined jeans under the chaps, that way you would get more use out of the chaps when you didnt need so much warmth but still wanted a bit of protection from the wind. Also leather quality and thickness vary. A leather shop in your area can custom make chaps for you and can advise you on the fit and finish. Hope this helped you............BG

I think BigGeorge nailed it perfectly.
A set of soft lowers would be a quick and dirty fix for the cold also.
Up here in upststate NY it gets cold fast in the fall , and I'm not ready to stop until the road salt gets thick.
Stay warm...
