Default Winter storage. and oil changes

I hate to admit it, but its getting to be about that time again to start thinking about winterizing the bikes, at least for us unlucky ones in the north. Anyway, what do most of you do as far as your oil? Is it best to change it now or in the spring? Ive only got about 1500 miles on the oil on both mine and my wifes bikes. I know moisture in the oil can be an issue so to me it would make sense to drain out all the oil in the spring and put in fresh, On the other hand it seems like maybe I should get the old oil out of the engine before it goes into storage, I run amsoil in both bikes. I know some guys who change it when they put it away, and drain it in the spring again and put in fresh again, and that seems like a waste of money and time to me. Just looking for some input from fellow northern riders.

Drain it out prior to storage and put new in. Also stabil the gas and have a full tank. Fog the engine, wash and wax and cover her up! If you're only going to change the oil once, then do it prior to storage and just leave it in in the spring.

You should change the oil prior to long term storage. Apparently there are acids in the used oil that can etch bearings. I'm not an oil expert, but that's my understanding of it.

dawg: What do you mean by 'fog the engine'?

I take the spark plugs out and spray fogging oil into the holes and turn the crank. If you don't have fogging oil WD-40 would do the same thing. Then put the plugs back in. Just like fogging a boat motor.

I change it out. Replace it with dino oil. That basically acts as a sponge to absorb any acids/contaminants during the winter. Run that in the spring for about 50 miles, dump it and then refill with Mobil1.

Spring. I'm already thinking about spring. It's gonna be a long winter.
