hiii...
just did my 800km riding yesterday
i ride at very hot weather, 35 C all day....
my 11 FLHTK dies on me several time....before it dies, it sputters then suddenly dies with black smoke come out from air filter...
my bike only got 1000 km on odo, so its brand new....at the first 5 hours of riding, its run very nice
it dies after i have traffic jam that make the engine feel very very hot....i can feel the hotness of the engine from my foot.
anyone experience this ??
after it dies...i try to start it...after 3-4 times it will start with high idle...like 3k rpm
help me
what happens
bike got vh 2-1 pro pipe with arlen ness big sucker
Do you have any kind of tuner (Harley, Power Commander, etc.) on the bike?
i have pc5 installed
after dies several times, i pull over and i remove the pc5 then go again...it still will dies w/o pc5....so i think its not the pc5 right ?
and the bike run better w/o pc5....so now no pc5 installed on my bike....
i guess the map i used on pc5 is bad...thats why it runs better w/o pc5....
read in the manual on how to turn off the engine idle temperature management system...that sounds like your problem...riders finding themselves in riding conditions where the vehicle is subjected to prolong idle conditions or traffic congestions.the motorcycle is equipped with a EITMS...spelled out above...wants to shut down the rear cylinder or engine if it senses a high temp condition......this is not harmful to the engine but mainly a rider comfort feature...as crazy as that sounds...good luck...
This is not a problem you should have with a new bike. Take it back and let the dealer mess with it. It might have just got hot and is pissed off at you for expecting an air cooled engine to not self destruct for running for an extended length of time with no moving air over the cooling fins.... It's not a Honda. Honda's don't care what you do to them, they will uncomplainingly take any abuse and work flawlessly for years and years. Harley Davidson's will not. They are finicky, temperamental, bitchy machines that can and will **** and moan and quit on you on a hot day if. You're not careful. Easy fix? Shut off the damned engine if you're not moving.... It works great. Convenient? No. Effective? Yes.
Learn more about your PC-V. **** with it on your own and you can cause some serious damage to your machine that will NOT be covered under warranty. Where did you get your map? If you got it from the PC-V website you should be in the ballpark.
Again:
The bike is air cooled. It needs moving air over the engine to keep it cool. If you're stuck in traffic shut it off until you can move again.
I am a new member and I own an '09 harley Road King FLHR which I have just purchased. I live in a waterfront home and sea air is always present. I would like to know what type of polish harley lovers use on their chrome. Can this also be used on the alloy casings or will it dull the polished aluminum. Thanks in advance for any advice.
