angelrod- read post #9. My insurance co. will pay me full retail for my bike if I write it off. I would stand to make good money if this were to happen. Thanks for all your warnings, but our insurance treats rebuilt vehicles the same as any other vehicle.

The rear fender area is where I want to add some of my own custom touches, so this is where I started. I had originally planned to order a new extended rear fender, but decided I would make my own instead. I put on the new fender, then cut the tip of my old fender off. With the old fender tip cut off, I could easily repair the dent it had. I then clamped it in place to get an idea of the length I liked. The last pic shows it clamped in place at the length I decided on.
Keep in mind that in these pics the bags and pipes are just hung in place temporarily, not lined up properly. The pipes shown are the ones I will be using

After I had worked out the dent in the fender tip and metal finished it, I welded up all the trim holes. I wish I could have found a street glide rear fender, but this is all I had to work with.

The first pic shows the gap left on the side of the fender after the new fender tip was welded on. Second pic shows the patch I made to fix this area. The third pic shows the look of the fender with the metal work completed. Next I fit the fender on the bike to get an idea of how it all looks. (sorry, but I forgot to take a pic with fender on bike). I am very happy with how the fender turned out. I will get a pic with fender on the bike. Next step-fender to saddle bag fillers, stay tuned
