Heat does not rise, it radiates to other static objects that are cooler. The heat you feel rising is air being heated by a static object. air being a gas heats quickly. Put your hand on a wall and look at through an infrared camera. Learned this through taking Thermal imagery course. Oil coolers are a must, have them on all the airplane engines I've owned also.

Good god man where did you come up with that nonsense.

How do you explain how a hot air balloon rises. Or thermals that birds and gliders use.

Hot air expands and is less dense than cooler air so it RISES.

Now turn your GED back in you flunk.

Fan to cool the engine, looks like the way to go to assist engine cooling even with oil cooler on the bike as well.

I think what glasspars is saying is that a heated gas like air will rise but heat within a solid object will not rise within that solid. The heat from a solid will transfer to the surrounding air and the air will rise.

Marv from Jagg told me a fan assisted cooler is overkill. Said the only reason he made one available was to stay competitive in the market but its redundant,I agree.

I had a ultra cool on my FLTRX and didn't care for it besides it leaked. Went to the jug fan and all is well.

If the Jagg system was capable of legitmately "over cooling" the oil, then I would call it overkill, but its not. If you are calling the fan redundant because of the natural air blowing on the cooler when the bike is in motion, thats not exactly accurate because the oil cooler works better with the fan, even at highway speed because the fan draws more air throught he heat exchanger than if the bike was going 100 MPH constantly, basically with the fan assist, the heat exchanger is cooling to its maximum potential all the time, whether the bike is in motion or not. Overkill or redundant? Not from my point of view.

I have an Ultra Cool and Jasons (Wards Parts Works) fans. Both work. I recently had to disconnect the Ultra cool on a trip because of a leak, (never leaked until I got in a hurry and made the mistake of letting a shop change the oil, they put a gorilla on it who really over tightend the filter) anyway long story short, the engine fans actually tend to do more than the cooler. They both work great together but if I had to pick one over the other, I'd have to go with the fans. Also I had a regular oil cooler before the Ultra cooland in stop and go traffic, oil cooler with a fan does make a difference.
