Anyone who doesn't believe oil coolers shed heat when stationary just needs to lean down & watch the heat waves coming off of it. If still not convinced, simply grab hold of it. If it isn't shedding heat, you won't get burned.

Heat rises, and cooler air moves in to replace the hot air. It's simple physics. I removed the chrome cover because it would seem to help with convection and offers no advantage to cooling ability, AFAIK.

Your physics are dead on, Iclick.
And most folks I know with the HD cooler have also removed the chrome cover. I believe to some degree it actually reduces cooling capacity by blocking air when moving and obstructing convection when idle. IMO not worth the trade for a little bling...

You can mount them directly on the back side of an Oil Cooler, or under the tank to blow air on the engine. Either way, they work quite well, are remarkably dependable and are very inexpensive.
I'd love to see your mounting techniques. Got any pictures?

Amen. Installed the HD Premium Cooler and have a much happier engine. Riding with the modified engine and in the South it was a must have.

I had to go try out my multi point temp monitoring system on the "don't do nothing when you ain't moving" theory. Idling, oil at about 195F, sitting still, 85F ambient, 7F drop on the outlet side on a Jagg 10 row, may not seem like much but when I turned the fan back on it only dropped about 25F from the inlet temp. So sitting still, my Jagg sheds almost 1/3 of the heat that it does when moving. The system is accurate, AutoMeter with 4 matched sensors.

I like the way Jagg sits in the wind. Personally I don't use an oil cooler at present. My Iron head and Shovel both had oil coolers installed. Put them on myself. At speed my oil temps never go over 240-250*. In the worst situation it will go to 265*. A good synthetic is very comfortable at 300*. Since our engines are primarily air cooled it makes more sense to invest in a parade fan. I'm not saying an oil coooler is a bad idea. The parade fan is a little more expensive but seems to be more logical solution to the overheating issue. My engine build has 30,000 mi on it and is doing fine. By the way I'm not running a parade fan either. I hope this helps.

Nothing against the Jagg, I've used them and they work, but this little beauty really does the job. If you're moving the temps stay around 180 - 190. I have fans on it that activate at about 210 and hold the temps below 220. When you start moving again the temps will drop below 190. The fans do help. I haven't had a chance to try it at 100+ ambient temps yet. It's suppose to be 105 here Friday. I guess we'll see!
