hey,new member here, ibought a 2010 road king classic last august.a big difference from my 36 yr old fxe. my question is should i install an oil cooler and is harleys oil cooler what i should use.any help would be great
If you mod the motor then you'll want an oil cooler. If you ride in the deep South or South West then you'll want an oil cooler. If you get an oil cooler I think most will tell you that the Jagg is the best.
harley coolers are good as long as your moving. i installed a ultra oil cooler on my scoot and have no heat issues. it kicks the fan on at 225 and shuts off at 190. now is the time to buy cuz he lowered his price $100.00. they cost $350.00 now.
Harley oil coller works well...have it on mine, and helped a buddy install it on his...easier because it adapts well. other coolers require more work, but worjk well too.
I had a Jagg frame mounted cooler on my 04 Flthtc, but I added lowers and I had to change to HD premium touring cooler. The frame mounted Jagg worked better even though it was noticebly smaller. I barely hit oil temps above 200 to 210 as long as I am moving.I live in Ma where it will get to around 90 degrees. It works for me ,but if you plan on driving stop and go which I avoid, get a fan assisted cooler.
I have the HD cooler on mine. It keeps works ok I have the digital oil temp stick to watch temps if I get stuck in traffic. I haven't had any problems. Highest I have seen is around 270 in traffic. Normally on hot day over 90 it stays around 245. I don't know how good or bad that is or how accurate the temp gauge is either. But it gives me an idea. I am running an HQ 107 kit if that matters.
I have the ultra cool....keeps temps no matter what real close to 230. My thought process was I personally overheat when stuck in traffic. Unless I had a system with a fan I was probably still going to overheat in traffic with a regular oil cooler due To no airflow.
I don't know if that would in fact be the case but that's why I went with ultra cool.

For those of you that have the Ultra Cool, how many miles have you driven with it? It makes sense to me to have one that is fan assisted, but on the other hand, it's another thing to go wrong as well.
So I have 2 questions, how many miles have you had it, and if the fans go out does it still act as a 'passive' cooler? Asking becuase I'm planning on getting a cooler as well. Thanks in advance.
