Put my DCC unit on and it sees little shelf time. Great add for me, redirected wind, added cover to hands, radio as I want it and detachable. Do not expect to ride 'dry' behind it, rain still gets to me and a face shield for my 1/2 helmet stays in the side bag with the rain gear although it does not seem as bad as just a windshield.

If you are just looking to get the wind off your hands I would look at Memphis Shades.

If you are a tinkerer like me and like to build things, and want a factory look. I built my own for about $300 before paint from stock HD parts off of Craigslist and eBay.

Super simple concept. Stock HD windshield sandwiched between an outer and inner HD fairing shells. The job mostly involves trimming an fitting. I happen to have an amp and speakers installed for my iPod.

I've got many thousands of miles on both bikes and yes I think the Road King windshield is more comfortable than the batwing. To each their own, but that is why I suggested riding a batwing to get his own opinion.

I totally agree. The batwing does keep the wind off the hands, but to me I get more wind in the chest with the batwing than the RK windshield. And yes I have the fork baffle.

I tour with the batwing however for the tunes. Around town and even on day rides I don't want the radio.

I purchased the Memphis Shades detachable fairing to use when the temperature gets colder to help keep the wind off of my hands. I don’t use electric gear or heated grips and the fairing does a good job of keeping my hands out of the wind when I ride during the winter. When the temperature warms up, I take off the fairing and replace it with my standard shield in about two minutes. It was relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and allows me to quickly change the look from an Electra Glide back to a Road King.

I have to agree. Perhaps it's the tall RK shield compared to my 6.5" KW. Love the look love the tunes. I am going to look at running with a taller standard style for the long rides. By the way I have a dragonfly, quality is there, rugged build

You should look into Hoppe fairings. They are a direct mount to the H-D detachable shield hardware and everyone I've talked with are pretty happy with them. They are also pretty affordable.
Feel free to contact us if you have nay questions.

Running a tsukayu on my 03 and am happy with the Quality especially for the cost. As for the protection not much difference between it and my Ultra.

I love my Woody's fairing. Glenn does great work at a good price and I liked picking out and installing my own radio. Took it out for a long ride last weekend after finally getting it all together and painted and it was great. www.woodysfairings.com

I like my memphis shades batwing. I aways use my buds when I ride so not having toons didn't play in my decision. All i have on my bars is a tach, cup holder and a windshield bag mounted on my fairing. I think it's a nice clean look. I do get more buffering in the chest than i did with the windscreen. Not enough to bother me though.
