Anybody know the p/n for the SE compensator? I have a 2007 FLHRS as well, only 20,000 right now, but you've got me worried!
Used to have similar noise when I first got the bike, installed IDS and really helped alot, but after hearing this...

What you're looking for is galling on the sliding cam and shaft extension on the stock compensator. It's not easy to see until you get it apart. If you're getting a noisy primary, your compensator is suspect. Have a good look at your chain tensioner while you're in there. If you're replacing the compensator, it's a good time to replace the tensioner as well.

I've got 40,000 miles on my 2008 FLHTC. Going on a two week trip end of May. You all got me kinda worried now.

I just replaced mine ('08 RG 25,000mi.). It was really banging on startup, and rattling bad when idling. Got it from Lakeshore HD for $216 shipped. Pretty easy mod., Starts like it should now.

What about the 2011 96" models? Do they have this same compensator or do they use an upgraded/new design?

It is my understanding that the compensators that are failing are the 2007-2010 model years, HD put the SE upgrade version in the 2011 models, prior to 2007 HD used a different design with no problems. I have read in other threads that only the touring models were having problems but I do not know if that is true.

I have a SE compensator in route and due to be delivered any day now. Along with a premium oil cooler.
