Default HK Advanced Audio FLASH?

As I understand it, the stock HK radio requires a flash when you install a set of rear speakers. Then the fader and the outputs for the rear speaker are activated inside of the radio. Does anyone know this to be true and if so what does it cost for the Stealer to do the "flash"?

I would like to buy the boom rear speaker kit. I will also need a new wiring harness for the rear speakers. I cannot believe all of the crap and expense that's required to have rear speakers attached to the tour pak.

Just a suggestion...don't waste your money on rear speakers. While they do look nice, unless your going to install some sort of powerful amp for the speakers, you & your passenger won't even know they are there. My wife sits right between them and she says she only hears the front speakers. I have them on my tour pak and I'm glad I didn't waste the money on them (they were already there when I bought the bike). I don't even bother to plug them in when I put the tour pak on for two up riding. If it weren't for the holes, I would remove them and sell them.

Thank for the input!

The only thing that got me going on the rear speaker pods is that the tour pak looks kinda blank with the pods. Who says that you have to have speakers and all the other expense that comes with it? I found some rear speaker pods on ebay but with out the speakers for $115.00. Has nice matching vinyl just doesn't have a speaker in it. That way I can fill the space at the sides of the tour pak. Next is the high dollar led lights for the rear. then upgraded hinges, then trunk liner.......HD knows how to milk every body for every thing that you got.

If you go to the harley website, then the parts section you can look up the radio. There you will find the instructions and file to flash your radio.

I just tried to do an update on my 06 Street glide the other night. All it did was eat the CD. Had to pull the main fuse to get the thing out.

Of all the crap I've added to my EGC, the rear speakers were the biggest waste of money.

The rear speaker pin outs on the HK radio are "live" w/o any dealer flash. The flash is necessary to turn "on" the fader control.

If you use HD speaker pods, you'll need the 77157-06 harness that runs from the pods to inside the fairing; then you'll need the non-Ultra overlay harness (NUOH) to connect that first harness to the HK radio. The first harness lists for $97 and the NUOH for $129.

Here's a thead on creating your own harness for far less money:
