Unhappy dyno/power commander ?

Hello,

I just had my bike dynoed at the local HD dealer and am not happy with it. They showed me the sheet which looked good but riding it home, it still bucks/hiccups between 30-40mph at 2500-3000 RPM. They said I have to bring it back again. After 3.5 hours on the dyno (what I was billed for), I would think I shouldn't have any issues.

My question is, after getting it home, I hooked the PCIII up to the computer thinking I could view their custom map for me. When I clicked "get map", it was the map I had loaded previously. Did they not do a new map? Is that why it's acting the same way before I dynoed it or can't I get the custom map off the PCIII that they made? Seems to be one thing after the next since adding my SE204 cams.

I was happy with the 83HP & 89TQ but did they not save the map to my PC??? VERY frustrating!

Any info would be great! Thank you!!

No you should be able to get the map of what they did. Did you save your old map first. Cause if you did, get the new map and save then open up software and go to compare maps and it will highlight all the areas that all diff. Maybe they just did a couple of changes. If it the same sounds like they didnt tune your bike

I did save the old map before they tuned it. It had my comments in it so I assumed it was the same. I'll have to compare them side by side to verify, but it does the exact same thing as before the tune, so I"m thinking they didn't save the map. I assume when you get a custom map, they make an advanced map, not a basic one like I had loaded.

If not, $280 doesn't get me much :-(

Yeah I have seen a custom dyno tune done and its basic not advanced, which I kinda think sucks cause your paying for a custom tune so you would think they would go adavance and tune each cyclinder

Tuning is an art.....not just any old harley tech can do it correctly. Yes, it does suck that you assumed the tech had the oats to do it right. You're only recourse now, is to start looking for a REAL tuner. By word for mouth, and research you will find one....hopefully it won't be a long trip to get it done. Some tuners will also leave the motor a little "fat" (rich) as a protective measure. If you can get her at 13.7 A/F across the board, you are going to get a real good tune. But, as mentioned above, both cylinders need to be tuned, and timing needs to be addressed.

Good luck. Cheer up....and let it pass. You WILL get her right!

Normally it's not necessary to tune each cylinder until you go with higher displacement. Rabbs I received your PM...I will be getting in touch with you. I think I still have your e-mail

That would be great RoadRanger!

Still dissapointed w/the local indy. I think I'll be asking for a discount for as many trips as I've made :-/

No, it's necessary to tune each cylinder regardless of displacement. Front and rear cylinders are dramatically different due to their relative airflow. The rear gets hotter than the front, and as such needs to be tuned differently.

If you have an Intel Mac, you can use Bootcamp and use the PC software. That's what I've done!
