You do mean the way it was installed right, not the pump itself...That damn little o-ring in the back of the pump??? Hell i had to re-open mine up just to make sure i had all the o-rings in...i couldn't sleep i worried about it so bad. Good luck.

I did some searching and it appears air bubbles in the oil after a good run is normal. I'll be curious if you replacing the oil pump seals solves the problem.

Hi again ,,,

thanks for the replys , this is what i have done today ,, frist i had checked the oil (cold) and it looked ok ,, started it up to put it on my lift and yep tapping like crazy ,, so i started with the heads, top cover and the frist thing that came to my mide was , it did not look like there was any oil up there,, verry clean just like i had cleaned it with a rag ,, ok so i checked push rods , any yes to make sure i had them in the right hole, and they was, ok now to the cams and oil pump, every thing there looks good, what i did find is that i have a bit of scoring in side the oil pump,, in on the side of the case, dont know if this is due to 32000 miles or i did not have it adjusted right when i did the cams, does not to bad to me the o rings on the pump look good , and they was new a 1000 miles ago, the gears look good,,, i am thinking it was not getting oil to the top of the heads ,, so i am thinking that way ,, the rockers look ok allso ,, so where to go from here ,, dont know yet ,, i am thinking on new lifters? oil pump ?

I had a buddy come over today to look allso , and he allso dont see anything wrong ,, he does have a cvo ultra with about 23000 ,miles on and i know it has the 255 cams in it and i had jumped oh his today and went for a 50 or so mile ride ,, and yep no tapping ok just a bit , but nothing like mine is doing now.. I know with going to the biger cams (se-255 ) I willget some more tapping on the valves but mine had gotten so bad in about 1000 miles that is all you hear going down the road , and its louder when letting off the gas going to a stop,,

I am going to go to the dealer tomarow and get some new parts , and thinking on getting a better bypass spring,
I do thank you for all of your relpys and if any one has come up with anything , i know i will find out what has happend and i will keep posting

there is one thing i did that i dont know about ,, i was sitting looking at it , back tire jacked up so i can turn the motor,, so i started turning the motor with nothing in the cam chest ,, and all of a sudden the crank started to pick up oil from the sump ,, as i was looking in to the 2 bearings holes,, so i dont know if that is the way it is or had it been sumping on me ,, ok again thanks

Hello to all and what a great day it is ,,, I wanted to let other here that have posted or has been reading this what had happened and what i did to fix this,, yes its fixed,

Ok i will let every one know what had happed , i did the cam change ,, i did not get the oil pump just right with the alingment , so the pump stated to score,, after that running the 1000 or so miles the pump scoring was getting bad , the eng start to sump,, we all know when it get to the point of sumping the oil pump will start sucking air , how much i dont realy know ,, but it was enofe to put a lot of air bubbles in the oil and i do mean a lot ,, so its pushing air and oil around the motor and the lifters with the air in them could not pump up any more ,,so thay went flat this is why it took the 1000 or so miles to get that bad of tapping becouse the oil pump took that much time to score to the piont it stated to suck air,,
i have a 2003 RG and it has allmost 78000 miles on it , Itook it down to look at the oil pump and it looked new in every way ,, so off to the dealer got a new oil pump and new lifters , just becouse i would feel better with new,, got bike back togther and with the frist start up it was so quite it was hard to even hear the valves,, i went for a 50 to 60 mile run and checked the oil ,, no air bubbles , so i went another 50 to 60 more miles on the high way running about 70 to 75 to get the oil good and hot , pulled in a rest stop and pulled the oil stick and yep no bubbles at all just good clean oil,, and no valve tapping at all I mean nothing when i got home and let it cool for some pulled the top covers off and there is oil in the top again ,
again thanks to all that has posted to help
Jerome

GLad You got it fixed. I was very interested about air bubbles in the oil. Have not seen that before, and did'nt think the bubbles should have been there. You cleared that up for Me. ......Ride Safe!

I had the exact same problem and what i found was my problem was the rocker arm to support plate end play was near the max. Apparently i had too much of a gap due to the valve train geometry already being off by design amplified by the higher lift of the 255 cams. I know it was not my oil pump alignment cause i verified it b4 i put everything back together, and also have gotten the air bubblies in my oil since the bike was new only when i run it hard tho. I put shims in the gaps to fill in the rocker boxes and problem solved its more quiet then when it was new. Seems like these TC's have a number of reasons that can cause them to tap and chatter. Keep us updated I am thinking that the new pump and lifters are giving you that extra 3-5psi you need to get a little more oil to cushion the upper valvetrain.

If you do a search a lot of people say it's normal. I'm glad to know it's not. Now I have a good lead on my problem.
