Default Cleaning exhaust covers

hello, while sitting at a stop light with rain gear on, my right leg touched the exhaust cover and took some of the rain gear and cooked it to the chrome exhaust cover. i cannot get the cooked on debris off. i have tried everything. im thinkin i need to get the exhaust hot and attack it that way. anyone else had this prob?

Yes. I'm dealing with the same thing. I ran my bike up to temp and sat on it
wearing nylon basketball shorts. When I got in the house my wife noticed some of the shorts were missing. Guess where they were. Melted on the header pipe.
I picked at it a little and some flaked off. I feel it will all come off with a little work. Mine was not rubber rain gear though.

I have read on these forums that some use oven cleaner. Do not get any over spray on anything.
Good luck to you.

There are several things that you can do. What I do is get a new blade in the knife scraper and some turttle wax chrome cleaner. Get a good bit of cleaner and get as much off with that. While there is cleaner on it I will use the scraper and gently go over the spot. Take your time and you will have great results. And how do I know? Every time my wife rides with me I always have some part of her boots to get off the exhaust. Hope that helps....

You can also use the cold formula Easy Off on a cold exhaust. Just don't spray any on painted parts. Let it sit for the specified amount of time and your good to go. It is easier to use and work around a cold rather than a hot exhaust. Your also less likely to burn or melt something else on the exhaust while covering painted stuff if your working it hot. I've tried it both ways and both work. Easy Off Cleaner for cold ovens just needs to sit on the melted crap a little longer. Same good results.

If you still have discoloration on the chrome after the oven cleaner try Ble Job chrome cleaner. Only stuff I found could take the yellow discoloration out of the chrome, works great.

I use a rag soaked in "Goof off" and lay it on the pipe (cold) for a few minutes.
Then its just a little elbow grease with a microfiber towel.

Yup, +1 on the cold oven cleaner. I'd rather work with a cold exhaust, than a hot one.

I was at the bike show in Toronto and Saw this stuff.
http://www.fw1shine.com/

The guy has an exhaust pipe with burn rubber from riding boots on the pipe. He sprayed this stuff on and left it on for about 15 minutes and off it came.
there have been a bunch of write ups on this stuff.

It is a wax not just a waterless detailer and once you use it on your windscreen and headlights, the bugs don't stick to it at all and water really does bead up.
