Not trying to hi jack your thread, but could someone explain sumping. I've read alot of old post on it. So when you sump all your oil doesn't come back to yor oil pan? Causes you to lose power? Does it ever get back to the oil pan?
In simple terms, the pickup side of the oil pump is not operating effectively. It's leaving oil in the crankcase which causes all kinds of problems. The major thing is the flywheel dragging in oil causing lost HP and the oil to overheat, Top end noise is also a known problem with a weak oil pump so I decided to check my bike to see if it's the source of my noise. It may very well be. I seem to be in tolerance for everything but at the upper limits.
Good day.
Do you have an oil temp gauge?
An INDY redid my cam tensioners and after putting everything back together my bike ran 30 degrees hotter on a cool fall day.
He said it was the oil temp gauge failing. He was wrong.
The oil was sumping, about 10 oz. drained out. When some of the oil sumps; the pressure remains the same but the temperature increases because not as much oil is circulating.
But I'm sure you know that...

I do not have an oil temp gauge but since I have the Vision three I can monitor the head temp.
I read somewhere that someone with the same problem in the same RPM range fixed his noise issue with a tune. Yeah a tune. Why? Don't know, but maybe something to look at?
You could first try re-aligning your oil pump. That involves removing you pushrods, cams and cam support plate. Also, check your o-rings. After that, use the manual way or the alignment pins and re-assemble.

Couldn't you just loosen the cam-plate bolts, including the four for the oil-pump, and re-torque using the pump-alignment procedure in the manual? I would also re-apply Loctite Blue.
I removed the drain pug while installing a HD dash-mount oil temp gauge and I only got a dribble of oil, so I'm reasonable confident that I don't have a sumping problem.
However, the dash oil temp gauge reads 230*, while my digital oil temp dipstick simultaneously reads 257*.
Which source do I believe?
Is there anyway to test them, like putting the dipstick, or oil temp gauge sending unit, in boiling water to see who reads closest to 212*?
