I can't answer for that size tyre, but I have used mostly Avon tyres on my Harleys since the 70s. They use a different construction to other current Harley tyres that give a smoother and more comfortable ride, also better grip, especially in the wet. If you use search on Avon you should get recent posts about them.

I only have 6oo miles on the Avon -- my concern was the wear of the Metzlers -- if the Avon last longer I will stick with them -- Also it seems to me the Metzlers need more and constant air pressure monitoring

Dont know about the 180s but I ran an Avon 200/55/17 for 10,000 miles before it had to be replaced, just kept a good check on the pressure about once a week, had a piece of metal in that one last week and dealer replaced the tire under wheel and tire warranty (have to run Dunlop 200 tire) and hear those only last around 4500 miles, oh well it was free and when its time to replace will definatley go back with the Avon.
