got a 2011 flhx 103 and going to start changing my own oils whats the best oil to use.are there any real differances between redline and amsoil or are they pretty much equal.and are both better than hd syn.
1 million threads on this, hard to go wrong with any syn and regular changes. I've been using Amsoil in my past 2 Harleys. Many hard fast miles with no issues.....
As said above, this is the most beat-to-death topic on this forum. Do a search, perhaps in the oil specific forum, and you'll get more information than you ever care to know on this. More conflicting opinions and misinformation also.
There is no right or wrong answer to the original question - only opinions.
That said, I run Mobil 1 V-twin 20W-50 in the engine and primary, and Mobil 1 75W-90 or 75W-140 Gear Lube in the trans on my new Limited.
My Duece has always had conventional HD 20W-50 in the engine and Formula+ in the primary and trans since it was introduced. Prior to the introduction of Formula+ I used HD's primary and trans specific lubes.

Like he said above you won't go wrong. I personally have used Amsoil for the last 12 years. 20W50 in the Primary & engine and 75W90 in the tranny.
I've tried the HD Syn 3, Mobil 1, Mobil 1 V-twin, Amsoil, and a
couple other synthetics that I forget their names.......
I'll change oil and filter at 5k ..... about the only difference in the oils
is cost, and availability to buy a qt if you need it while out on the road.

Ducati, Aprilia and several other manufactures use Shell Advanced oil that's not
available here in the USA - too much stuff in it the EPA doesn't like. That said,
they all recommend Redline - so that's what's in mine everywhere - their primary
oil too.
