Default problems with lowered street glide front

just joined the 21" font wheel club. was doing some measuring from factory to new wheel and the lift is about 1-9/16". I decided to go with the progressive spring kit and I can lower 1" or 2". I told my mechanic to go with the 2" springs. He said the tree will hit the fender and he knows a couple people that did it. He said I'd still have to be careful with the 1" springs too. The directions that came with the progressive kit say the total travel of the forks will not change.

I'm now thinking I need to find a new mechanic. Anyone have any suggestions or first hand experience with this one? Thanks.

Forget the mechanic and do it yourself. I dropped mine 1" with the progressive drop in kit. Its easy to do. Use the manual and there are several threads on it. You'll need a buddy to help you put the fork caps back on but thats it. Make the seal tool out of PVC pipe. Just do a search and you'll find everything you need here. I added ricor intiminators. I have never come close to hitting the fender.

another thing you may want to check is Inside of Back fender may rub the fender and at high speeds burn the Paint off fender. i went to a 21 on my 07 Electra glide and lowered it 2 inch to compensate for the lift the wheel gives the bike.. so my bike would be like using a 1 inch lowering kit on yours... i had my buddy do mine once i removed fork legs annd took to him. as for the fender, quick way to fix it if it may rub like mine did is to cut the bottom out of the Fender mounts so you can raise fender a tiny bit .. i learned the hard way and burned the paint on back of my fender .. im using a 21x3.50 60 spoke wheel running a 120-70-211 tire

This has nothing to do with the fork question but since it was mentioned in a previous post. Tape a 1/4 inch nut to the tire and spin it both directions. If it hits you need to tilt the fender. All you have to do is take a 3/8" (I think thats the size, it should be slightly larger that the fender mount hole) and ream the rear fender mount hole. The fender will tilt perfectly.

well it's too late because i already dropped it off at the mechanic yesterday. he talked me into lowering only 1" which i guess will be fine, but I'll still be about 9/16" higher in the front. I already put a reach seat on the bike since my inseam is only 30". That's why I though i'd be better lowering it 2".

Thanks for the replies. I don't seem to have clearance issues, but will definitely try the nut trick. I did read about drilling out the back holes to give room for adjustment.

someone told me if you are desperate for something to push the seals in, you can use the other half of the fork.

I have the progressive monotube 2" under and have absolutely no problems, the bike handles better and it doesn't have any clearance problems.
