I installed the fixed position backrest and it went smoothly. The only continuing problem is reinstalling the backrest into the mount bracket through that slot in the seat. I could not imagine a more difficult design. Sometimes it slips right in and other times I screw with it for a half hour or so to get it locked into the bracket. Surely some engineer could figure out an easier design that this.

Everyone makes it sound like a big deal taking the ultra seat out, so I was kind of apprehensive. I used an offset screwdriver with Phillips 3 bit, screw came right out. I put a sock on the tab in back and just pulled seat out no problem. Went back in easy and securely. I am just going to keep my offset ratchet made by General on the bike, with a PH3 bit. And a sock. This may be a dumb question, but what's wrong with the stock backrest?

I had no problems either. But I prefer sitting straight up.

Installed the adjustable on my 09 RKC and absolutely love it. I think the dealer did not have one in stock.

Like others have said, I don't know what your parts guy was smoking but I installed an adjustable backrest on my 09SG. No problems at all.

Turned mine 180 degrees with the support tab to the tank, as stated earlier "backwards". sounds nuts but it was just fine then.
