while jacked up spin tire by hand; but first I've had great results with simple green on the engine & tires/rims. Wet first then spray and let soak, add another light spray of water, spray and let soak again. Then spin tire washing rim with bucket of soapy water and rag, using a kinda stiff paint brush on spokes where they meet the rim...rinse with full spray of the garden hose. All the dirt washes away due to the soaking and spray of the hose. I can't go more than 3-4 weeks without a good bath because of the bugs where I live. That keeps the rims pretty clean. In between baths I clean the bugs on the front end with a damp cloth and wipe with a soft rag, a little pledge here and there. I only wax my rims once a season...maybe twice...the dirt washes off during the monthy bath.
I've only had mine for 13 months and put 16,000 miles on it so far. I haven't cleaned the back wheel yet and the wide white looks like $h!t. When I need to change the back wheel she is going to get a good cleaning and definitely won't get a wide white again. I will replace the wide white on the front when it needs to be changed.
I have a similar one and I use it to easily lift up the wheels when detailing. The bike is very sturdy on this type of stand as well.
Thats alot of $$$ for something you can make yourself out of some scrap tubing and a welder. Made my own and you are right, they work really well and the bike is pretty stable on it.
For the back I modified a scissor jack with a wider base plate, added a cross piece and welded on a nut so I can use an impact gun to raise & lower the jack....

The one I have looks very similar to yours. A buddy of my dad's used to make them. However most of us don't have welders or talent to weld and have to buy them!
