Default 2011 FLTRU Suspension Upgrades

Through this forum and others I have been researching suspension upgrades for a new FLTRU I bought a couple weeks ago. Several people had been recommending Howard at MotorcycleMetal.com I now understand why. I spoke to him on 3 different calls, spent a lot of time discussing riding styles, expectations, etc. He was patient, informative and funny.

I ordered Ohlins (version 3) [Internal Reservoir * 336 +10mm/-0= low of 958.65 958.65 - 336 millimeter = 13.228" (13 7/32") inch
through 346 millimeter = 13.622" (13 5/8")] Gave me a forum discount and arranged for a reasonable delivery period. He offered to be available for technical support on the install and any adjustments as well. Hope I remember he is on EST and I am on PST.

Great experience and I really look forward to replacing the OEM set up. Now on to the front suspension solution. He has something dandy coming, but I'll have to wait and see when the design is done.

I'll post some pics and install comments in a couple weeks when doing them.

Thanks again Howard.

Not sure what mufflers you have but anything much longer than 13" on mine would allow the cone nut on the rear axle to hit the muffler.

sfchief........ hmmmm, I'll have to look at that. The Ohlins were built and shipped same day. I should have on within week or so. Let's hope there are no conflicts. I have Supertrapp Screamin Eagle pipes. Not sure diameter difference to OEM pipes. Bike is at seat place getting upgraded seats, so it will be Friday before I can explore measurements against your note. Thanks for heads up.

Motorman10 - I use to do sales and training for BMW Authority Motors in AZ. (no hissing please) Can you share more info on the motor mount and bushing (what hardness?) Looks like Traxxion will be the front end choice.

motormount is from glidepro. made the engine smooth. I wont take any jabs at you for being a sales rep for BMW. They have the best ABS system in the market. Occaisonly,I get to test ride a lot of bikes for police work. Just test rode a Victory. I wasn't impressed.

I completely agree with your assessment of Howard. I'm running the #3-4 shocks, and I had to space the mufflers down about 3/4" so that the rear axle nut didn't smack the slip-on at full droop. If you're running stock mufflers, they have a dent in them for axle clearance and they might work without spacers. Otherwise you could consider denting the muffler housing with a 2x2.
