Default Need some GPS help with a 2011 RG

Hey guys:

I'm renting a 2011 RGC for a 5 day cruise out to Santa Fe, NM. I have a basic Garmin GPS for my car that I'd like to bring along. Any suggestions on mounting or accessing power/charging for me? I have no idea if the 2011 RGC's have any power available to plug the Garmin into w/out a hard wire set-up.

I will be renting so I can't do any mods to the bike but considering buying a handlebar mount or just some small velcro strips to the tank or fairing. I know, that sounds hokey but it's worked before on a rented SG.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are speaking of the Road Glide Custom, they have a cigarette lighter socket on the left side of the fairing. Should be able to plug your Garmin into that pretty easily. Rather than tape or velcro, you could get a RAM handlebar mount for your specific Garmin model for less than $30 at gpscity.com. They make them for almost all the popular Garmin gps units.

I have a small map tank bag that has a magnetic mount. It has a clear cover. I put my hand held GPS in it and it works great. Mine is battery powered, not sure about the power for yours though. The cigarette lighter will probably not work since there is not sufficient clearence to turn left if there is a plug in in there. It will make contact with the tank, and possibly damage your rental. If you pop off the seat you can quickly attatch a power lead to the battery directly. Just bring a phillips screw driver with on your trip.

Try www.mountguys.com; about $35 for a really nice Ram mount
