If I understand what you're looking for, either a Harley Brawler seat, or a Corbin Hollywood solo will sit you 'down' in the bike, and move you 'back' from the bars (for more of a 'laid back' stance). There are others, too, I'm sure. But I'm familiar with these two. I find the Brawler more comfortable than the Hollywood Solo.
The very exesnive seat-lowering kit from Fat Baggers makes it feel more like you are sitting "in" rather than up "on" the bike. And the increased travel and ground clearance of the touring chassis is retained.
i was wondering the other day of anyone had done the Fat Baggers frame lowering kit on a Road King..
It has to work...its the same frame as SG / RG
THAT would be pretty bad....a sleek black stripped down RK with a 3" lower seat, some nice bars and some sweet chrome wheels.. Hmmmmm
I went from a Deluxe to my RK, and rode two years with a Mustang seat. Just wasn't what I wanted. Changed to a Sundowner with MCC gel insert mod, also have the Khromewerks +2 bars, and it's a perfect set up now. I also gave up having a backrest, and I find it much more comfortable. I found having a backrest made for too much restriction for movement, and the Sundowner has good support built in.
I think it's just a matter of not being used to sitting higher. Your used to a certain position.. Your mind and body are programmed to think that it is the "Right" way. I think once your body accepts the ergonomics of the RK (with heritage bars, and lower seat) then you'll be happy.. Also, Mustang makes a new "Low Down" seat that sits you 1.5" lower than stock. Could be a good fit.. I've had many bikes.. My favorite is the Road King.. I just sold my SG, b/c I loved the versatility of the RK, and missed it so much. You won't be sorry.

I ordered the Heritage bars from Zanotti's because you can do them without changing any cables or wiring, when they got here I didn't like the looks of them, they just didn't look right for me, well we had 4 or 5 days of rain here in Colorado so I thought I would spend a little time putting them on to see what they felt like and was I surprised, they are perfect for me. The seat/bars relationship is very close to my 07 Streetglide.
close to the Street Glide? The heritage bars are straighter..right? I test rode a SG..the bars seemed more at an angle..no?

So..i went riding all day (some great country roads here in alabama/tenn) and stopped at starbucks on the way home.. As fate would have it..i pulled up and there was a 2011 Black Road King parked there..i knew right away who's bike it was as ive seen him there a few times..parked right next to it and compared the two...man that RK is gorgeous...

according to the site, the 1.5 inches is up to 2010..the 2011 sits just a half inch lower..still, good call..that looks like a nice seat. I can vouch for mustang seats. I put the wide tour on my heritage and love it.
Hey Ben... when I got my RK, not only did I feel like I was sitting on it... it kinda "pushed me forward" some. I would find myself scooting back a lot. I came real close to shelling out for a custom seat. What I did instead was, I took it to a custom seat guy. I told him what I was wanted it to "feel" like.
While I waited, he pulled the cover off the seat, exposing the foam. Busted out his electric knife & started cutting . I sat on it. He cut some more. I then took it on a short ride as was. Came back, told him where I thought it needed some more. He shaved it until it felt perfect. After another test ride it was perfect. He got the shape/feel I was wanting. He put a gel pad in it, & put the cover back on, & I couldnt be happier. It's the stock HD seat but custom cut to my butt.
It cost me less than a custom seat which may or may not have worked. Next winter, Im gonna take it back to em to have it recovered with leather or gator or something.
I had a 2005 Heritage Classic and thought it was the perfit fit and best bike built... then I road a 2011 Road King Classic. I loved everything about it ! I changed the bars to Heritage bars... got a Mustang solo with backrest and now the Road King fits like it was custom built just for me. Don't ride a Road King if you are not ready to buy it !
