Default 91 Octane Premium

Arizona has it.
My 103" RK has pinging. All stock 2008 with 25k miles.

I got a bottle of octane booster and used it in the last few tanks, and didn't notice much less pinging under load. Does this stuff actually help? I figure at only $1.50 per tank if I get 3 tanks out of a bottle, it's cheaper than spending $350 on a Power Commander.

hmmm

Think about it though if it came down to the PC or f'ing up ur motor due to pre-detonation and having to get it fixed.....Which would cost you less?

That makes too much sense I think. ha. Short-term I guess the question is, are octane boosters scams?

Mostly scams, yes. They claim to raise the octane rating, but it's only "points"... like .1, .2, not 91 to 93

Default Has it been pinging for long?

If not then maybe the gas might be suspect but if it has been going on for a long time then it's the timing and not the gas. 91 is fine for our bikes, in fact in cooler climates 89 is fine too. Maybe check your plugs, but the octane boost is a big waste of money.

Needs a download or Power Commander in there. My bike would ping on ANY gas under certain conditions until I got a PC III installed with a map to give it the gas it needs. It no longer pings on ANY octane gas. Bike runs cooler too.

I've often wished I would have stayed with the XIED instead of chasing down the "tuner" road.

Octane boost is of little help in my opinion. Get a tuner. A PC loaded with a map from fuelmoto would be my choice.
