the octane and other additives in gas are adjusted for altitude and season. sometimes you will get 89 octane and sometimes 93 depending on where you are and the time of year. you need to add a tuner of some type.

FWIW,.....Click on the "Octane Boosters" then read the article on "Do you really nead an Octane booster." You can scroll down to the summary if you don't want to read the whole article:

I use only 93 Octane since nothing higher is readily available.

91 and 93 octane could actually be the same depending on the formula used to calculate the octane rating. Now that the heat is starting here in Arizona, your pinging will only get worse. If you're runing pure stock, you're also running lean. If you have no interest in a tuner and/or if your aren't going to be changing the intake or exhaust, you should try the xied's from nightrider. It's a pretty inexpensive fix.

is the 91 octane also 10% ethanol?

when ever someone says $350 for a power commander, the first thing that comes to mind is $12 bucks for O2 extenders , or $79 bucks for O2 enrichment cables. I went the O2 extender route.

Thanks for all the input.. I have a feeling I'll go the PC route for sure. That sounds like a real solution.

Short term solution is to actually boost your octane until you get your PC installed, to get you through the "summer blend" gas. 10% toluene or octane is a good start, just keep in mind that extended use can damage your 02 sensors. Store shelf octane boosters are scams that raise octane 100ths of a percent, as stated above. Toluene and xylene are the real deal, and you are already burning them in your gasoline. Honestly, unless you have a high-compression engine you won't need octane boosters anyway. Get your tuner!!!

Adding the boost stuff doesnt do anything to richen up the fuel air mix. Do the PC V. I had the most pingingest bike in the world and the PC shut it up and like good!!!
