Two things to check. The valve guide seals were a problem on the 05's and caused excessive oil use. These were being replaced under warranty and you should check if they were because you'd have to pay for it now. The other thing is the wear of the cam tensioner shoes. 25k is around where they start to show wear.
As far as I'm aware the two things that Plaige the twin came are soft cam tensioner pads and the crank twisting.. The cams are historicaly bad as the spring that holds the tensioner are too heavy and what with the porosity of the plastic its only a dissaster waiting to happen!
The crank can twist but seems to do so if heavily modded.
I went for Andrews cams with headwork, I could have gone for geared cam as the endfloat was only a couple of thou out.
I would rather go for the cam change which is the mod change on the 2007 models just to stop possible future issues and just enjoy!
12K in BC for that scoot is an ok price...if you like the bike go for it..poor bastige that bought it new had over 30k in it...(cdn $)...if you have a friendly indi..i would have it looked at...(a peak at the cam chain tensioners)...brakes/tires ect ect..if they're all good to go....get out your cheque book.....hey bottom line is you cud ride it for two or three years and get 90% of the money back...and that my friend is pretty low cost entertainment !

Yup, a buddy of mine 05 is just now staring to show the symptoms. About 20K.
thanxs for the replies,
I should not have put the $$$ I am paying for the bike as I honestly don't think the $$$ is a factor for here in BC, BC means Bring Cash :-)
The dealer wants roughly $500 to do the cam tensioner, I will have to check with my bud to see if the valve guide seals were replaced under warranty.
I have had a few HD's over the years but nothing with 40k on it so I really do appreciate the help & the mechanical info.
edit.
I just got of the phone with the owner the cam tensioner & bearings are being replaced next week and the valve guide seals were done under warrany.
ride safe

Nice bike and decent price for up there. The US dollar is weak, so I sell bikes to a lot of Canadians who come down here to save money. I know it's a lot more money in Canada, though.
Nice bike...I have the 2006 version as you can see. Same color. I get a lot of compliments on the black cherry paint. Changed out the seat right away to please the wife the day after I got it...then proceded to add 6 or 7 thousand worth of bling....easy to do. It was easier for me to quit smoking and lose weight than it has been to drive by the HD shop and not buy something. Good Luck with her.
