I'm not sure a little drop qualifies you to be full fledged members of the DAC....Anyone locked key in ultra gas tank cover? Or started on a 600 mile trip with no key for the gas tank cover, or ran out of gas in the middle of Iowa (Des Monies to Minneapolis trip), Left pistol in hotel room, pissed on yourself when riding through mountains on the bike, crapped yourself trying to lift your bike in the rain, forgot where you parked your bike and reported it stolen....

me either.

I was VERY close to joining the club. Now granted, I've only been back on a bike for a couple months after a 10yr hiatus, so give me time!

Anyway, I was coming home for lunch and was in a hurry to get back to make a meeting, so I decided I'd pull the garage door opener out of the windshield pouch a few houses early and just start it opening while I was coming down the road. Well, I kinda forgot about that whole "clutch thing". It had to have looked hilarious to anyone watching. I had the remote in my left hand, stupid door wouldn't open so I got closer, and close, and closer....and of course the bike is going slower, and slower, and slower. Before I could register what I was doing the thing starts chugging and bucking like a damn bronco. I basically chucked the damn opener (yep, broke the hell out of it), squeezed the clutch in as fast as I could, tried to make the turn at the last second, hopped the curb into my yard, and probably missed the tree by 3-5 feet. I was laughing so hard at myself I'm surprised I DIDN'T forget to put the damn kickstand down and dump it right there in the driveway just for good measure. Damn, the more I think about it, the more I really wish I would have had myself on video.

Great idea for a thread, well done....

I've done well over a thousand miles a day many many times. I've gone back and forth across this country from coast to coast and up and down from Canada to the gulf many times. When I was younger for some reason when I was on the road I had to do at the very least 1000 miles every day, don't know how I got that into my head but I have done it all my life. And this is not the first time I have dropped a bike, but it is the first time for my SG. I had hoped with age comes wisdom, but 1000 mile days can make your wits a little dull. Not that I have always been sharp, 30 years ago I ran out of gas in the middle of the salt flats and sat there for a couple hours until a couple guys in a pickup came by and hauled me off to a gas station. When I was a kid the first time I rode my dirt bike after getting it bored out and ready for me to try my luck at climbing widowmaker I popped a wheelie in my drive way, the bike took off and left me standing there watching it zip across the street into the field. I've been a dumbass for years, but now I am a member of the Harley Touring Dumb *** Club. Makes me feel special.

One thing I have noticed, the 09 Ultra is easier to pick up than the 98 or 08 was.
Dropped it backing into the shed where I park it and pulling into the condo in Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago. Thought I had it in neutral when I let out the clutch in Myrtle.

I backed mine into the garage after a long ride... home safe home. got off, it fell over... tight sqeeze for me and a bike on it's side, but I muscled and manhandled it back up right, and straddled it to put the stand down, didnt work, lost balance, and over on the other side it went. Somewhere about this time I was beginning to wonder if I was drunk and forgot I'd been drinking, and perhaps I should just start over tomorrow. Once again, muscled and manhandled it up, put the stand down, sat there to ensure that the world had not spun off axis in some wierd way, set it on the stand, and went in the house. I'm a member in good standing... paying my dues regularly. Could be worse... I am not a charter member... Now, I put the stand down, I tap it with my foot to make sure it is forward, I set the bike on it, and I push the bike to make sure it is locked in place.

keep the shiney side up!!!

Aight...I concede that dropping the bike at low/no speed gets you in....I flew back to KC this weekend and rented a SG...black with 500 miles on it. Long story short, the frigging thing went over on the right side after being parked on a hump. My dumb axx is now $1308.12 dumber. I'll soon have a lightly scuffed right lower bag vivid black/w black latch, outer fairing with very small scuff/scratch on right side, crash bar and a busted right fairing mirror up for sale.

Yep. I can relate to that. I was renting a bike in Orlando in 2007...was on an EG and left the cap somewhere...cost me like 40 bucks. That brings to mind another gas tank story... End of a long trip home and the last fillup before getting home. I normally fill the tank while sitting on it to hold it straight upand get as much gas in as possible...well this fillup I zoned out while filling the tank and drenched my nuts with gas...I guess I had been giving the old jewels a good scratching that morning and let me tell you...That sh%t burns...wouldn't recommend trying it...plus gas is to expensive for that crap now. Now that I think of it I may be overqualified for this club.
