Went to the drug store on lunch hour and as I was backing my RK out of a parking spot,it fell over on me.I dragged myself out and looked around and there was a bunch od people staring at me and my bike layed over on the crash bars in the middle of the parking lot.Being totaly embarressed,I tried to jerk the bike upright and heard a loud pop from my back.Down it went again.I finally got the bike upright using the recommened method and left the lot quickly. No one offered to help and I had a sore back for 4-5 weeks after that.At least I had no damage to the bike because of the crash bars. Now I pay particular attention to parking my bike and slow manuvers so I won't drop it again. Next time, and I know there will be,I hope I have someone to help me pick it up.

I have the exact same story Dabouncer, except I lost it on crushed stone with too much front brake, and about 200 fellow riders at a outdoor wedding. 3 people were there to help before I could get upright, telling me that everyone goes thru it. I still felt like the dumbest person on the planet, however, great lesson learned, NO FRONT BRAKE!

I did the same as GTK nobody helped---picked the bike up--next day severe back pain---just now getting over it.

Welcome to the club.

It doesn't even take a front brake to go down. I was just making a u-turn in a dead end, real slow, no brake but some mud on the ground and the front end went sliding. It doesn't take much. Luckily I was able to hold it up. It was that close though.

well, if you lay it over on the right side, yes- put the kick stand down and then (and this applies for the bike being on either side) put the small of your back just below the seat with your *** being near the transmission (knees bent) and grab a hold of the handle bar and the crash guard and lift it up.

difficult to explain in writing, easy to demonstrate.

That is pretty much it. The video "Ride like a Pro" shows a gal lifting a bagger up with this manuever. Don't think I would want to meet her in a dark alley.

At a local cancer run that attracted about 2500 people I watched as a young lady (diva type) dressed in white leather pants with matching jacket, gloves and a pink helmet and riding a new white sportster pulled into the gravel parking lot. I could see she was coming in too fast. She grabbed a bunch of front brake and down she went. Her "look at me I'm so friggin cool" attitude quickly turned to tears as a bunch of people hurried over to pick her and the bike up. She was ok but she began to look more like Alice Cooper as her eye makeup began to run from the tears. Her leathers were scuffed and her sporty scratched. Dumping your bike in front of any number of people will humble the SH*T right out of ya no matter how cool you think you are...............BG

fast eddies was great guess - was actually the Loading Dock in grafton.

thx for replies....I feel somewhat less silly now. I doubt I'll soon forget however, the feeling of dumping it in front of everyone. VERY appreciative the guys didn't make me out a fool.....they surely could've done so.

Hmmm. Havent been there yet. Usually when I get up that far north, the bike just kinda veers over to Alton and Fast Eddies.'

Worth the trip?

Tim

I did exactly the same thing. Me and my buddy Chris were riding, our families passed goin' the other way in my truck. We turned around to follow and my wife pulled over into a parking lot with very big stones (like 2 inch round) so we could chat. It had just rained for like 2 days straight. There were absolutely no shoulders on the road, so Chris and I had to follow into the lot. I came in at like 5MPH because of the rocks and came to a very slow stop and as I did, the stones that my front tire was on gave way. Must have been pure mud underneath. Dropped the bike and scratched the derby. No biggie.

I can actually pick up my bike from the side. The Deuce is a lighter than a bagger and I'm a little bigger than average. Good to know the right technique. If I got a bagger or had to help someone with something heavy it's good to know how to upright them.
