Default Touring Tires?????

Hey Guys,
I run the Dunlop Harley Davidson tires with wide white walls and the Harley script in the white wall area.
I ONLY got about 6500 miles out of the rear tire before feeling like I had to replace it!
The air presure was always correct and I never did any burn outs but am guilty of running pretty hard in 2nd and 3rd gear. Someone told me that was the problem.
Is that about normal mileage for that tire or "AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG"
Thanks for any information and suggestions.

I run stock Dunlops front and rear. Average 20,000 plus on the from and 10,000 on the rear. Front pressure 36, rear 40. I ride hard somtimes cruising above 90 mph.

I've been running stock 402's on my RKC for all of it's 64k miles. I get 11-12k out of rears. My first front went 39k. The second one now has 25k and still looks good.

On my EG Classic I get 10,000 to 12,000 on the rear and 20,000 on the front. Wife gets about the same with here Heritage Softail. We run Dunlops.

Regards,

Bill

I'm like every other azzhole, I have an opinion.

I found that I can extend my tire life by changing 1 habit. I don't down shift coming to a stop as much any more. May sound crazy but after changing this habit I went from avg 8000 miles per rear tire to 12000 miles. As a side note, I don't use the back brake near as much as the front. I only use the back brake when making a hard stop.

Aggie may be on to something. I do not downshift coming to a stop, unless it is a near panic stop evasive maneuver. I never thought about tire life. I just don't downshift to save wear and tear on the running gear. I figure brake pads are cheaper than belts, trannies, primary chains, and so on.

I average around 8K on the rear Dunlop. My SO thinks 60 degrees is too cold so most of our two up riding is during the summer. The tire gets used up a whole lot faster with two and bags loaded. Spring and fall mostly solo riding results in much less tire wear. I keep the tire pressure at 40+ when touring loaded. Probably hotter rubber temperature in the summer helps the faster wear, too.
