I never realized that there was a difference in the suspension!

Nevertheless, if you go for the Custom with the power/security pack option, you are within $1,500 of the Ultra. For that money you get:

  • My newly discovered suspension upgrade
  • CB/intercom
  • Cruise control
  • 2 additional speakers
  • More powerful amplifier?
  • Luggage capability
  • Adjustable rear seat
  • No need to buy a sissy bar for passenger
  • debatably nicer wheels
  • Lowers
  • More color options
  • Larger passenger foot rests
  • Additional A/C power point, I think?
Regarding the windshield, my guess would be that for me, the Custom's is too low, and the Ultra's is too high...

Why does this look like the Custom's rear with an added tour pack?

are you talking about the street glide rear shocks that are 1 inch lower? I have the parts book (2010) and have looked up all of the parts for the front end and all of the touring models have the same part numbers. The rear air shocks are the same for the Street Glide and Road Glide and then the same for all of the the others. SG & RG have 2 inches of travel and the others have 3 inches

Not sure...another poster said that the RG Ultra had more rear suspension than the Custom. If so, it was the first that I heard of it.

1" longer shock = 1" more travel. Thats the only difference.

Because he added the FLHX/FLTRX rear fascia and tri-bar light to the rear end of his FLTRU. I did the same thing. Pretty easy addition. Total cost was about $175.00 for parts ordered from Zanotti's, install took me about an hour, mostly because I was trying to be super careful while drilling into my brand new fender. You can skip the drilling if you use double-sided 3M tape (so I'm told) but I wanted it to be completely secure.

whats the cost of adding color matched lowers and tour pack and hardware and backrestpad and cruise control and 13 inch shocks, bet it alot more than the difference between the ultra and the custom.

I preffered the RGC over the RGU as I like the slightly slammed look. I just added a 4-point docking station, so I could add a passenger backrest when I ride with my lady, and a luggage rack for when we want to do an over night ride. Luggage packs come into the hotel room with us. I had no desire for hard lowers, as I prefer removeable soft lowers for the cold season. I bought this RGC at 36, but will probably upgrade to RGU when I'm about 46. You know....when I'm old.
