Default Security question

So decided to go out for a little ride earlier. Got on the bike backed it out of the garage and started it outside. Rode around a bit then stopped to get some gas. At this point I realized I didnt have my key or fob.

Luckily wasnt far from home and the wife ran it down to me but I am confused as to why it started at the house. The lights flash all the time if I move it in the garage with the key laying on the tool box near by and I had it pulled all the way outside before I started it.

Maybe backing it out got close enough for it to pick up the signal and deactivate the alarm? Just a guess. Bottom line is learn how to use the code to disarm it....

Must have been in "Range" I would do a little testing, ask where your wife found the fob before she brought it to you. I used to keep my keys w/fob on a key holder in the house and had to move it further away..

The bike was atleast 35 feet from the fob when I started it.

I know I need to know how to override it. I looked at it when I first got the bike but I think until you need it the first time you dont give it much thought.

But did you roll by it on the way out of the garage? If you watch the key light next time, you should see it light up solid instead of blink when you start to move the bike. That means the alarm is deactivated. The fob doesn't need to be present any more for it to start.

What I'm trying to say is if the alarm was deactivated as you rolled out of the garage, it wouldn't re-activate unless you were perfectly still for several seconds and it wouldn't matter that the key was far away. Now if you got off the bike, walked around, got back on and it started that's a different story. My bike has never started with the key in the house, or just laying on a shelf in the garage unlike some others have reported. It always (so far) has had to be within a couple feet of the bike.

Ok did some testing and figured it out.

The key fob was to far away but here is what happend and what I didnt know.

When I took the bike up off the jiffy stand it was close enough to the key fob to not set off the alarm. Once this happend you can move the bike as far from the fob as you want and it will still start even though the ignition was off untill it was out of range.

Seems like it shouldnt start if the fob is to far away when the ignition is turned on but it will.

Note to self (frontiercat): don't forget the key fob, as I have no wife to bring me my keys!
