Question about true duals sounding better.... you're probably talking about while you're on the bike riding it or standing behind it as it idles. Do you think you could tell the difference from distance, say as a bike rode past you?
Lets not waste time with the torque loss debate here. I've heard it. I've seen the dyno sheets. I understand fuel scavenging. I'd simply like to hear from owners or fans on HOW they sound better. Has anyone heard the same bike with the same mufflers with stock and then true duals head pipes? How do they differ?
The first thing I noticed when I did my test ride was that the sound was now in stereo. (That's not a joke.)

Guys I think I'm sold... I was looking online yesterday was going after some Samson rolled 3" duals, but then I ran across the Samson true dual fishtails (the shorter ones) Having had HD fishtails on my 1983 FLH I loved the sound of those Any good advice on either the 3" or the fishtails by Samson?
And you think I can install them myself It's a pain in the *** taking the bike 2 hours drive to a shop.

Don, referring to your earlier post, you won't get an Evo to sound like a shovel! But yes you should be able to fit a new system yourself. You may only need a spanner and screw-driver, but will need new exhaust gasket rings. Check if the new pipes come with them, otherwise you will need a pair - somehow!
I've got a friend that has a new '11 Street Glide and had Rinehart true duels put on. You can't even come close to getting to the transmission filler plug and barely can get to the engine filler plug.
I went straight from the stock exhaust to V&H true duals with Python slip ons. Sound and performance were greatly improved. However, I just replaced that system with a D&D Fatcat and ghost pipe. The improvement here was about equal. It took some getting used to hearing the exhaust from one side only, but I am VERY glad I did it. More torque across the range and it pulls hard in every gear. And I love the deep tone when idling and mean blaaat when you get into it.
