Default Changing Derby cover

Could anyone tell me what is involved in changing the derby cover? is it just unscrew and put new cover and gasket on and done?
Thanks for the anticipated help

Make sure you use a T27 Torx bit. DO NOT USE T25
There are just 5 bolts, but they can be a bitch. Have the bike upright, not on jiffy stand.
Other than an occasional stripped bolt (Do a search) it's a piece of cake.

Yes just unscrew. You might want it on a jack so it won't be leaning when you do it. Don't know if the primary fluid will leak when it's leaning. The gasket is rubber in a groove in the cover.

I think if you are changing to one of the theme covers you lose the rubber o-ring and need a paper gasket. It's something like $5.95 at your dealer.

I replaced mine on the jiffy stand and didn't loose any fluids. It took me like 3 minutes all together. Like "chipishere" said, stop at the dealership and get a new gasket.

I sent my wife in there and they gave her the gasket for free. She pretty hot though. I'm sure they would've charged me at least 8 bucks...

Well - one thing that seems to be missing here is that you must apply a sequence to the tightening of the screws. Specifically skip one tighten one, repeat. I'd suggeset following this step cinching the cover down and then finishing off with a torque wrench (inch pounds) to 84 to 108 in-lbs.

I got tired of seized screws and stripped out heads so now I just tighten the derby cover screws hand tight.
