Default EFI tuning question

I installed a SE HI flow air filter on my 2009 RK Classic and I am keeping the stock exhaust. I am condisering adding a PCV from fuel moto but I am wondering if I even need to spend the $300.00 or not. I am basically looking to reduce the heat from the engine and improve performance but since I have the stock exhaust is it even worth it? Also can I have my Harley dealer remap my existing EFI module and get the same results?

I put the SE stage 1 air cleaner on my '09 at 1k and had the dealer remap it. The remap was a waste of money. Six months later I bought the PC-V w/autotune from FuelMoto. BIG DIFFERENCE! Go for it.

You will need something to give the engine more fuel to compensate for the added air flow. PCV will provide a relatively inexpensive means of doing this plus it will provide options if you make any changes later. Get it from FuelMoto great prices and support.

with just a/c you don't need to tune from a reliability standpoint. If you want cooler temps, you need to throw fuel at it and a dealer download won't do that (they still have to meet EPA). So, in answer to your question, if you want cooler running temps, you need a tuner (and your mileage will suffer some).

If your like the rest of us go get the PCV cause you'll always be looking for more out of it, I would though do the pipes then let Jamie or Kieth know what you have so the can program it and its just plug and play then.

I put a stage one SE intake on my 07 ultra and a set of SE 4" slip on's. Bike ran fine. I read somewhere that the leaning effect of the stage I and SE 4" was insignificant. I also read that re-locating your engine head temp sensor if done correctly could richen the fuel mixture. I examined the sensor and found it to be very simular to the sensor in my camaro....basically...the mass of the heat sensor is in the tip. So I put a thick lock washer inbetween the sensor and head. which leaves a 3/16th air gap between the sensor tip and the cylinder head.

The only thing that comes to mind is don't believe everything you read. Do you have any any idea what you have accomplished if anything, by putting a spacer on the CHT sensor. If you did get lucky and actually manage to retard the signal an undermined amount, you extended the temp and time that you stay in high idle/warm up mode, and you raised the temperature that any heat management functions kick in, anything in between your bike is running normal, no blanket enrichening effect across your map. But I like the way you think.

You have another option if you just want to cool it off a bit. I'm running XIED'S with a full Stage1 setup. My bike runs great! Cost for an 09 is about 100.00 bucks. Go to tuneyourharley.com and read about the ECM and how XIED'S work. If you plan more mods down the road like cams and big bore kits, I would go with the PCV or Power Vision from FuelMoto.
